Music should invigorate the soul, stimulate the imagination and make you feel good.” David Boyce (Broun Fellinis) BROUN FELLINIS Would like to showcase some of the various projects they’ve founded or been part of over the past 30+ years, as well as introduce some new ones. Uniting All Frequencies (Uniting All Frequencies or Under As Fuck) is the connective tissue between the Afro-Punk-Industrial aesthetic of The Beatnigs and the Afro-Futurist-Jazz stylings of Broun Fellinis for drummer, Kevin Carnes. Throughout the early 90's, Kevin assembled several ensembles under the UAF banner, genre bending Punk, Dance, Pop, DJing and Improv, to perform throughout the Bay Area. Black Quarterback is a live looping trio featuring David Boyce (sax and electronics), Kevin Carnes (drums and electronics) and Michael Cavaseno (guitar and electronics). BQB released one recording, "3", recorded live during their residency at Yoshi's SF in the mid-2000s. Black Edgar's Musik Box is a journey inside the extramusical subatomik kosmic space where saxophones, efx pedals, synths and a drum machine are used to conjure jazztronica from another planet. All beats are considered, all sounds are embraced. Enlightenment through analog digital designs, the next level of sound imagination evolving, third eye indigo vision, channeled by Osiris Black Edgar aka David Boyce (Broun Fellinis). 6 Roses is David Boyce, tenor/soprano saxes/efx and Michael Cavaseno, guitars/efx) conjure songs from across the spectrum of music, from Jazz to RnB to World and re-interpreting them in psychedelic, ambient, mesmerizing soundscapes that transcend the conventional ways of music making. This is the sacred space where melody and harmony join with rhythm to produce sounds of joy and expectation. Funkonya is a new trio founded by bassist, Kirk Peterson. Continuing in the tradition of East Bay funk, Peterson also adds surrealist flavors of the Boohaab. BROUN FELLINIS — Exploring Spirit, Magic, Soul and Sound. Broun Fellinis are a sonic adventure from the inner self to the cosmos. The most important thing about music is the way it makes you feel. Musicians are lucky enough to live a life of pure feeling if they can play their personal visionary music with as much integrity and energy as the spirit grants them. For the last 30+ years, the trio called BROUN FELLINIS have been doing exactly this. The Fellinis innovate and disseminate their "Brounsoun", a sonic expression inspired by the ancient to future traditions of Jazz, Rock, Funk, Hardcore, Afrocentric Hip hop, Dub, film music and African/Indian trance sounds. Notable performances include a tour with Ben Harper and co-bills with Gil Scott-Heron, Meshell Ndegeocello, the Roots, Erykah Badu, Bad Brains, George Clinton, Rafael Saadiq, Mos Def, The Last Poets, Living Colour, Zakir Hussain, Bernie Worrell, Jimmy Smith, Galactic, Medeski, Martin, Wood, Ravi Coltrane and many more. Downbeat and Spin magazines as well as NPR, KCRW, and Radio Nova in France have profiled the group. The trio has performed at the San Sebastian International Jazz Festival in Spain, the opening of the Yerba Buena Center For The Arts and the Stern Grove Festival both in San Francisco. Top venues The Independent, Yoshi's and the House Of Blues have hosted the group and in June of 2016, Broun Fellinis celebrated their 25th anniversary at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco.
