ivy room presents FRIDAY MAY 17TH STEAMING HUNKS OF HOT LOVE CHUNKS JUDAS BUTLER Doors 7:00pm / Show 8:00pm $18 Advance / $20 Door ($50-$100 Superstar Save The Bay Supporter Packages as well) IVY ROOM 860 San Pablo Avenue, Albany • 21+ SAVE THE BAY (website) Celebrate San Francisco Bay For over 60 years, Save The Bay has been a trusted and proven entity protecting San Francisco Bay. In 1961, three citizen activists, Sylvia McLaughlin (pictured), Kay Kerr, and Esther Gulick, were alarmed by the years of pollution and destruction to their beloved Bay. Our founders mobilized their community to “save the bay” and from these roots a movement grew. Like the challenges of the past, the threats we face now lie beyond the power of any single entity or individual to solve. With the support and partnerships of individuals, companies, and organizations Save The Bay is mounting efforts to make Bay Area communities sustainable, healthy, and equitable for all residents. STEAMING HUNKS OF HOT LOVE CHUNKS (facebook) The Steaming Hunks of Hot Love Chunks formed out of the cooling dust of an imploding supernova 487 million light years from earth. They debuted in the 1980s as a UC Santa Cruz party band, playing ironic covers of songs they didn’t really like, but soon discovered they could write their own songs equally lacking merit. Their style, defined musically by their inability to play jazz chords or escape the gravitational pull of the pentatonic scale, is anchored by the cuddly grizzly bear stage presence of singer John Carlstroem, who sings as if he actually believes he is “Hammered to the Wall of Love” and wants to get “C-c-c-c-closer to you.” The band, known to their double-digit legions of loyal fans simply as “The Chunx,” reunites every five to ten years when one of the members needs a new kidney. But this may be your last chance to catch them live for some time, as Carlstroem is moving to Maui, Hawaii to live out his fantasy of dressing as King Triton, partying with Woody Harrelson and Willie Nelson, and conducting an undersea Tuba orchestra made up largely of porpoises and Monk Seals.🦭 JUDAS BUTLER Judas Butler is a Brooklyn based band formed in the crucible of college critical theory classes. Introduced by a shared professor, they bonded instantly over a communal love for artists like Liz Phair, Sleater-Kinney, and Bikini Kill. Already making music individually for years, they began writing and playing together in the spring of 2023. Their blend of cheeky lyrics, intricate harmonies and fuzzed-out guitars serve up a contemporary answer to the riot grrl lineage, and it’s clear to anyone who listens that they have fun doing it.
